Hiking the Bamboo Forest in Atlanta
Located north of downtown Atlanta, there is a beautifully nestled bamboo forest along the Chattahoochee River. This hike makes for a great day trip as the East Palisades Trail has so many different features and aside from the Atlanta bamboo forest, what I love most of the hike is walking along the river.
Here's everything you need to know on a hike through the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area’s East Palisades trail located in Sandy Springs, Georgia.
How to get there
Option 1:
1425 Indian Trail NW, Sandy Springs
You’ll find two different parking spots for the trail. When I visited in the summer, I parked at 1425 Indian Trail NW, Sandy Springs. This area fills up past the morning time so expect a long wait to find parking since it is a small area.
Option 2:
The other option, 4058 Whitewater Creek Rd NW, Atlanta has more spaces available. Definitely be sure to go early for both options as this hike has become a popular spot in Atlanta.
What to Expect
The hike is has a very easy to moderate level but it also depends on your hiking level. From where I parked (EP 19), it took me about 4 miles roundtrip.
The trail is simple to navigate because of the many markers throughout the way that help you pinpoint where you are and where to go, however, I suggest downloading the app before you arrive here even though you’ll most likely still receive cell service.
Where is the bamboo forest in Atlanta?
You’ll find the bamboo forest right along the Chattahoochee river on marker E-26. The bamboo trees seem to never end and the views of the river are so beautiful. Most people will be in this area since it is quite the main attraction. You can climb along the large curved tree for a few photos and explore the different sized bamboo trees.
