Top 10 Places to live in Atlanta
It’s no secret that Atlanta, Georgia has been one of if not the top metro cities of the South. I’ve been in Atlanta for almost three years and I constantly have people asking me the best places to live which is why I created this quick and easy guide detailing the best neighborhoods in Atlanta in 2021!
North Decatur
Average Rent $1455
Just on the outskirts of East Atlanta, North Decatur has a mix of sophistication with hipster vibes. People tend to buy homes in this location because of how big and affordable they are but rent takes the cake here too! This area is known for great independent restaurants and a quiet feel.
2. Midtown
Average Rent $2300
Midtown is basically the creme of the crop when it comes to desirable luxury neighborhoods in Atlanta! Working professionals thrive here because of the great waking distances to just about everything and the gorgeous high rises that would cost a fortune in LA or NYC. Don’t get me wrong, an average price of $2300/month may not be doable but to others it is definitely worth it.
3. East Atlanta Village
Average Rent $1600
This neighborhood in Atlanta is one of the most vibrant places in the city you’ll find. Not only is it extremely affordable in its cost of living but you will be surrounded by so many creativity. From live music, to amazing eats, this place is heaven for anyone who loves to be around art.
4. Buckhead
Average Rent $1973
In this area, you never know what celebrity you might see. Like Midtown, you can live in areas with gorgeous views and close proximity to shopping centers, restaurants, and clubs. Cost of living is also going to be pricey in this area.
5. The Beltline
Average Rent $1835
One of the best amenities of the Atlanta Beltline is its trail. It gives the surrounding residents exercising options, some of the best culture in Atlanta, and extreme walkability. This area continues to boom in economic development and every time I visit the Beltline I feel as if there is something new being built.
6. Brookhaven
Average Rent $1506
Some describe Brookhaven as the place fresh college graduates go to live. The area definitely has a slight college feel to it but there is a family mixture to it. The neighborhood is aesthetically pleasing yet affordable. Here, there are often community activities so its a great place for anyone who’s social.
7. Virginia Highland
Average Rent $2695
This is another famously affluent neighborhood of Atlanta yet it’s known for being more casual than Midtown or Buckhead. What I love about this area is that you’ll always have a place to eat or grab a cup of coffee. Homes here are going to be very expensive but you might luck out and snag an average priced apartment depending on what amenities are a must for you.
8. Atlantic Station
Average Rent $1630
I call Atlantic Station the shopping center of Atlanta. It hasn’t even been around relatively long but has become the go-to place for shopping. It’s within Midtown (so a suburb of a suburb). The area has a very urban feel to it and can be classified as a perfect live-work-play neighborhood.
9. Grant Park
Average Rent $1420
This is a historic neighborhood in Atlanta. There’s many long-standing houses here and some of my favorite small business restaurants are located in Grant Park. I’d call this a family-themed neighborhood yet there are some great bars within this suburb.
10. Kirkwood
Average Rent $1517
Kirkwood offers a suburban/urban feel and is known for having pleasant neighbors. There’s wonderful markets throughout and tasty eats. People also come here to buy homes and they typically start at the 300s.
GlobetrotterCurls Tips:
Before signing anything binding, always visit the neighborhood you may move to in the nighttime.
When looking for a place to live, make sure you have a clear outline or idea on what your monthly expenses will look like (rent, utilities, gas, groceries, financial goals).
When you are touring an apartment, take some time to ask a resident nearby what their experience with management has been like.
