Fall Natural Hair-Care To-Do List
The weather is slightly getting cooler, and the boots are coming out. My favorite time of the year has always been Fall. Fall has always stood out for the great weather, the wonderful smells, and all the great outside opportunities. With a season change comes the need to upgrade your natural haircare routine. It is something about the cooler weather that can make coily and curly natural hair suffer the most.
Here are four tips to add to your Fall natural haircare to-do list!
1. Drink More Water
This can be a bit challenging as the weather drops in temperature but drinking an adequate amount of water keeps your hair moisturized the best by starting from the inside. Doctors recommend we drink about 8 glasses of water per day but if you are aiming for hair growth and haircare, it is suggested you increase your water intake even more! The easiest way to know if you need more water in your system is to look at the color of your urine, yes I know “ew” but if it is darker in color you NEED water!
2. Protect Your Hair
The easiest way to shield your hair from the upcoming changes in the weather is to wear it in protective styles. Some of my favorite protective styles that require low tension are knotless braids, crochet locs, two-strand twists, clip in extensions, halo twist, and braided ponytails. The major key in choosing the right protective style is to make sure you have access to your scalp. It should not keep you from cleansing your scalp and moisturizing your hair.
3. Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize!
For all seasons especially Fall, this will be the most important part of your haircare to-do list! Natural hair is known to be full and curly, but it is also more easily acceptable to dryness. If you like to use the liquid, oil, and cream method, (LOC), try Uncle Funky’s Daughter Midnite Train Leave-In Conditioner, then follow up with their Glossy Finishing Hair Polish infused with safflower, jojoba and coconut oil to strengthen and protect the hair. Lastly, I recommend their Extra Butter Curl Forming Crème. Not only does my hair love it but the whipped butter elongates and detangles my natural hair.
4. Deep Condition Every Wash Day
As mentioned before, the more ways you bring moisture into your hair the better! I believe every wash day you should be deep conditioning your curls with a moisture-rich conditioner/mask. If your curls need even more moisture like mine then add a plastic cap and sit under a hooded dryer. Heal & Renew from Uncle Funky’s Daughter is not only organic but a great hair masque for a deep treatment.
